Celia Birtwell's design for Wuthering Heights

At the age of 70, Celia Birtwell continues to be as active as she ever was. She was well known in the 60's and 70's for her fabric designs for former husband fashion designer Ossie Clark, and for her friendship with David Hockney (it's her in his painting 'Mr and Mrs Clark and Percy'). She more recently designed a range of clothes for Topshop, and has just completed a project with camping equipment retailers Milletts!

She has now turned her hand to book cover illustration - for Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights. She was asked to produce an image with no figures so she has used the wind blown moors as her inspiration.

Check out the links to see Celia's own website, full of all her classic and contemporary designs, and to view her illustration.
