Waste Land

Vik Muniz, a New York based Brazilian documentary film maker, returned to his homeland to spend 3 years recording the people who scavenge and recycle rubbish in the world's largest dump, Jardim Gramacho, on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. The 'catadores' as they are known, helped him create portraits of themselves out of the rubbish that surrounded them everyday.

The resulting documentary 'Waste Land' has won many awards. You can visit the website to see a trailer and learn more about the film and it's creator.
