Birmingham and The Black Country were built on 'Metal Bashing' industries, and the region's claim as the birthplace of 'Heavy Metal' music has long been linked with it's social history. 'Home of Metal' is a celebration of the music and industry of the West Midlands. All summer there are exhibitions, events and films to see.
Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery are hosting an exhibition of memorabilia. Wolverhampton Art Gallery is showing artwork inspired by metal music called 'You Should be Living: The Visual Language of Heavy Metal', as well as 'Manufactory by Chris Coekin' which has been created to evoke the experience of working in heavy industry. The New Art Gallery Walsall is hosting 'Be True to Your Oblivion' by Mark Titchner - which includes a sound installation. So even if Heavy Metal music makes you 'run for the hills' there will be something of interest going on.
