On at the mac in Birmingham until 15th April is 'Made in the Middle' which showcases the work of 35 contemporary craftspeople who all work in the Midlands. One of the most interesting aspects of the show is the emphasis on the pathways taken by the exhibitors, whether by the traditional route through craft-based degrees or by diversifying from other art or design backgrounds or even by undertaking an apprenticeship with a designer/maker.
There are pieces on display by textile artist Jennifer Collier, who uses vintage household objects in her work.
Basketmaker Maggie Smith weaves with natural materials such as bark and twigs to create delicate objects.
Nottingham based artist Laura McCafferty creates illustrations of domestic life using fabric and screen printing.
