This month's craft magazine features a new plate design from Royal Winton of Stoke-on-Trent, well known for it's chintz tableware. This in itself is not remarkable. But when you realise that the design is a collaboration between the pottery company, ceramic artist Andrew Tanner and animators Unanico, and that the design incorporates augmented reality, it becomes something groundbreaking.
By downloading an iphone app and placing the phone over the design, the pattern becomes an animated scene, featuring a bird, butterfly and fieldmouse. The short film below shows how it was made.
